Hi Roger, Just
a quick note to wish you a happy new year for 2003 and to say thanks
so much for including the article..."This Museum jaunt was historic
stupidity" on the website. I really enjoyed it, having been to
the Smithsonian in October last year. It's great that you include
not only the serious, but the lighter side of our wonderful museums
world. So, thanks for a laugh to start off the new year and keep up
the good work.

Dear
Director, Like so many others I have found your thumbnail topics interesting,
entertaining and informative. Then in today's list of topics came
an article on Cash strapped cultural institutions in the City of Melbourne,
Australia. This is of great interest to me as I run a small to medium
museum in Melbourne and need to constantly keep up with the politics
of funding in this city and this state, indeed in this country. So
I looked and found you had a free subscription. Would have joined
earlier if I know that. Though I think it is clear enough

Published by Roger Smith, Global Museum is a free weekly newsletter
gathering information from a large pool of museums located all over
the world. With a clean, uncluttered layout, Global Museum acts as
a wonderful resource of current information. From bizarre and unbelievable
news to noteworthy historical facts, this newsletter will plug you
into information that is just slightly off the beaten media track.
You might be surprised to read some of the articles that didn't make
worldwide headlines. Previous issues included information pulled from
Russia's Hermitage Museum, The Niagara Falls Museum, the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Articles featured
in the past also included an announcement from the historical Wellsbilt
hotel that owners were officially declaring the building a black history
museum; oral history archives with Albert Einstein; discovery of what
is believed to be the Rameses I mummy and Christie's New York auction
that recently grossed $14.9 million and set new world auction records.

Global Museum: A couple of years back I remember greetings the appearance
on the internet of Dr Drum's Not-For-Profit Bookshop. Dr Drum was
New Zealand marketer Roger Smith, who offered publications for and
from non-profit outfits like museums, parks, zoos and foundations.
But now this energetic proprietor has decided to change tack and make
a bob out of the web any way he can – museum stuff (International
news features quirky items like the woman at Malaysia's Kelantan Museum
who locked herself into a glass tank full of snakes), travel-centre,
classical music, jazz emporium, toyshop, video sales, paid resume
posts, banners and pop-ups galore. You can't help hoping this boisterous
museum-meister solves the riddle which has perplexed far ritzier outlets
like Flying Pig – how to turn a profit on the web.

Dear Roger, -just
wanted to say how much I enjoy the Global Museum, and how nice it
is to have something else to read about this week. I've been very
lucky that nobody I know personally was directly involved in New York
