Hello! I am writing to inform you that the Global Museum website has been nominated and selected as archaeologyfieldwork.com's featured website for the month of November 2002. What they said "If you're interested in museums, this is the website to check out. Global Museum features a fascinating webzine, an extensive list of worldwide employment opportunities and other online resources as well"
Jennifer Palmer

Hello, I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan (USA), where I study archaeology/anthropology and history. I value the global museum, and appreciate that it is free to the public. Thanks!
Anne Nagrant

Hi Roger, Just a quick note to wish you a happy new year for 2003 and to say thanks so much for including the article..."This Museum jaunt was historic stupidity" on the website. I really enjoyed it, having been to the Smithsonian in October last year. It's great that you include not only the serious, but the lighter side of our wonderful museums world. So, thanks for a laugh to start off the new year and keep up the good work.
Sharron Dickman

By the way, I think the Global Museum site is brilliant.
Dave David Parkhill , Library Technician , Queensland Museum

Roger Smith - Founder & Publisher of Global Museum
Opening of the "Wreck of the Orpheus" exhibition, NZ National Mariitme Museum, 2000

Dear Director, Like so many others I have found your thumbnail topics interesting, entertaining and informative. Then in today's list of topics came an article on Cash strapped cultural institutions in the City of Melbourne, Australia. This is of great interest to me as I run a small to medium museum in Melbourne and need to constantly keep up with the politics of funding in this city and this state, indeed in this country. So I looked and found you had a free subscription. Would have joined earlier if I know that. Though I think it is clear enough
Peter Haffenden, Director, Living Museum

Published by Roger Smith, Global Museum is a free weekly newsletter gathering information from a large pool of museums located all over the world. With a clean, uncluttered layout, Global Museum acts as a wonderful resource of current information. From bizarre and unbelievable news to noteworthy historical facts, this newsletter will plug you into information that is just slightly off the beaten media track. You might be surprised to read some of the articles that didn't make worldwide headlines. Previous issues included information pulled from Russia's Hermitage Museum, The Niagara Falls Museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Articles featured in the past also included an announcement from the historical Wellsbilt hotel that owners were officially declaring the building a black history museum; oral history archives with Albert Einstein; discovery of what is believed to be the Rameses I mummy and Christie's New York auction that recently grossed $14.9 million and set new world auction records. "http://www.globalmuseum.org offers a worldwide directory to museum studies programs. (Roger Smith's treasure-trove of museum related jobs resources.)"

New Zealand Herald – June 27 th 2000 Bookmarks by Peter Sinclair
Global Museum: A couple of years back I remember greetings the appearance on the internet of Dr Drum's Not-For-Profit Bookshop. Dr Drum was New Zealand marketer Roger Smith, who offered publications for and from non-profit outfits like museums, parks, zoos and foundations. But now this energetic proprietor has decided to change tack and make a bob out of the web any way he can – museum stuff (International news features quirky items like the woman at Malaysia's Kelantan Museum who locked herself into a glass tank full of snakes), travel-centre, classical music, jazz emporium, toyshop, video sales, paid resume posts, banners and pop-ups galore. You can't help hoping this boisterous museum-meister solves the riddle which has perplexed far ritzier outlets like Flying Pig – how to turn a profit on the web.
Peter Sinclair

Roger Smith, the founder and director of Global Museum, a highly successful international Webzine, offers us some insight into how he has established a museum-based compendium site. Global Museum boasts current readership in 88 countries and maintains a weekly mailbase of more then six thousand museum professionals; something for Cultivate Interactive to aspire to!
Cultivate Interactive Issue 4: Editorial

Hi Roger, Wow.... your 'new look' site is a sight! Loved the audio wave and pic, made it friendly and really 'un-corporate' (my word for 'boring, bad, frigid, insipid..') The whole layout, look and feel is great. I am just trolling through for a bit of guidance for our strategic plan writing. On a previous visit I downloaded Sharron Dickman's Marketing Plan and found it a great resource. Good luck with the 'zine
Phillip Charlier

Many thanks for your help- I really enjoy your virtual museum- it is a great service! I do not have a web site at this point, but certainly will provide a link to your museum as soon as our website is up and running.
Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig

Dear Roger, -just wanted to say how much I enjoy the Global Museum, and how nice it is to have something else to read about this week. I've been very lucky that nobody I know personally was directly involved in New York or DC, though this is not true of all my friends & co-workers. The US news services have not been good about reporting the outpouring of shock, outrage, & sympathy coming from all over the world, though I know about it from friends with extensive overseas contacts. The messages on the Museum List have been appreciated. Thanks.
Deborah G. Harding, Collection Manager, Carnegie Museum of Natural History

I just wanted to say thanks for sending these emails through each week. As a post-grad student studying Museum Studies here in New Zealand, it's great to read about what's going on in the industry globally.

The news section of Global Museum is an invaluable way for me to keep up with things in the museum world, but sometimes I am not able to read everything before the new articles are added.
