The trustees of the New Zealand Conservancy Trust are:

Bryan Innes, who has experience in many rural skills: dairy goat farming, logging, milling, feral animal control and fur trading. He has 10 years experience as a social worker.

Joanna Pearsall, who has lived in a solar village community for 17 years, built her own house and teaches music. She has founded and been involved in a number of educational establishments.

Dennis Scott, who works as a landscape architect, nurseryman and Permaculture designer.

Together, Joanna and Bryan grow their own fruit and vegetables, keep bees, grow an organic garlic crop and have a small tree nursery. They host many travellers, run an intern programme and teach sustainable living skills, including permaculture design.

How are intern placement hosts chosen?
All intern hosts are chosen for their wide knowledge, practical experience and willingness to teach others. Many of our hosts are families or communities working towards a harmony of ecology and economy on their land. Interns are involved in family life and in all levels of activity on the land. Other hosts are members of environmental organisations, government departments, non government organisations or professional bodies.

How much will the programme cost?
The fee ranges depending on your negotiated programme which is tailor made to suit your needs and budget. A twelve week programme could cost about $US2100, but could be much less if you have skills which contribute significantly to the host or host organisation. The fee includes tuition, food, accommodation, administration and transport to and from placement. It does not include airfare or travel / medical insurance.

    Will I gain University Credit?
For those students able to negotiate with their colleges for credit for internships, we are very willing to act as field supervisors and support them with their negotiation.

What support do I have when on placement?
We will maintain regular and frequent contact with you.

Where in New Zealand will my placement be?
This will depend on the process of matching your needs with our hosts.
